Staircase weight

Staircase weight

The approximate weight of a wooden between-floor staircase — from 150 to 450 kg depending on the species and design.

01 /Weight by wood species

The approximate weight of a wooden between-floor staircase (height 2.8 m, 15–17 steps, flight width 90 cm) is 150 to 450 kg depending on the chosen wood species and design. The weight of the finished structure is directly related to the density of the dried wood. Below is the approximate weight of a standard staircase (full set: load-bearing beams, steps, risers, railing):

  • 🪵 Pine (light, density ~500 kg/m³): 150–220 kg.
  • 🌳 Birch (medium, density ~650 kg/m³): 200–280 kg.
  • 🌲 Larch (dense, density ~670 kg/m³): 210–300 kg.
  • 🪵 Beech (heavy, density ~680 kg/m³): 220–310 kg.
  • ✨ Ash (heavy, density ~690 kg/m³): 230–320 kg.
  • 👑 Oak (very heavy, density ~720 kg/m³): 250–350 kg.

02 /Adjustments and comparison with other frames

If the staircase is L- or U-shaped with a massive turning landing and extra support posts, another 50–100 kg is added to the total weight.

  • ⚙️ On a steel frame (mono-stringer or twin profile + wooden steps): 250–400 kg.
  • 🌀 Spiral steel staircase: 150–250 kg.
  • 🧱 Monolithic concrete staircase: 1.5–3.5 tonnes (requires a mandatory foundation).
